My
journey in discovering books began in elementary school. In 5th
grade I decided to take a class which involved being on the morning announcements
therefore working in the library. When I got to school first thing I would do
was rush to the library sign in and grab a stack full of books on the cart. I
was in charge of putting the books away and I absolutely loved it. By the end
of my rounds I would have about three or four books in my hand that I wanted to
check out. That was the privilege of working there; I was always surrounded by
books. And I would every so often come across one that caught my attention. If
it wasn't for my outstanding librarian I would have never gotten this
opportunity. Only ten students had been chosen from about 30 who had applied
from the 5th grade class. The fact that I worked there really taught
me discipline and the discovery of the Goosebumps series. She doesn't know it
but Ms. Cabrera taught me that books were a way into the mind and soul. Sometimes
she would catch me opening the books and reading snippets instead of putting
them away. She would give me this look but then would smile and I knew she was
kinda happy that she gave me this opportunity to explore the wide range of
books there. So for the opportunity she gave me I must thank her, where ever
she is nowadays.
That's great that you've learned discipline from working. Also, I know you enjoy reading, so I feel like this small job helped you find yourself. That's great! :)
ReplyDeleteYou should try to locate Ms. Cabrera and tell her how much of an impact she had on you and your life. As a teacher, I know that I personally love hearing from former students, and I remember each and every single one of them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm going to bring in a book for you tomorrow. I hope you like it :)
